The cost of a mother fucking wedding!!!!

Seriously. What the fuck? Why is it that I can't just have a nice, simple ceremony with my friends & family & not have to save every penny I earn for the next 10 years to make it happen?!?

Ok, so I'm being a little sarcastic... a LITTLE... but c'mon, I think you know what I mean! I'm not asking for a big, elaborate wedding. I'm even willing & wanting to do SO much of it myself... but even DIY is pricey as hell! In some cases it's actually cheaper to just hire someone else to do it after you price all the supplies you need for some things!

This is my 3rd marriage, his 2nd. He had a real wedding, but not what he wanted... it was a "please the family" kinda gig. My first was a hurried civil ceremony at the court house before my baby-daddy went off to boot camp. We had been planning a real wedding, then he up & joined the Navy so we rushed things along & said we do the real thing later... yeah... the divorce came first. My 2nd was a little BABY step up... a VERY small ceremony at a wedding chapel... in a shopping strip... across from my old high school. Yeah. We had immediate family & 1 friend (she was our driver because our car broke down!), followed by a joke of a reception at my wicked MIL's house.

I've never had a ring I liked. I've never had a real proposal. I've never had a day worth remembering or documenting in pictures. UNTIL NOW. Now I have a beautiful ring, given to me by my best friend & he wants me to have a real wedding with real flowers & a pretty dress & everything I want. And I really don't want much, but apparently what I want will still set us back AT LEAST $8,000... & that is when I budget on the EXTREMELY conservative side!

I found a dress I like that's roughly $500, but I could probably get my mother to make it & it would cost about 1/2 that. The girl who runs a restaraunt we love said she'd cater it for about $600... even the cake is less than I expected. It's the venue & chairs & tables & all the other b/s you don't think about... that's what's gonna kick our ass!

Ugh. Ok... done venting. I'm just angry because we've already pushed it back from this Sept to next April & at this rate it's looking as if we'll have to postpone it even further.
