Our Towns City Wide Clean Up

Yes I have touched on the trash and illegal dumping subject before but....

Saturday, the small town that I live in, hosted a City Wide yard sale and City Wide "Clean Up".

I was pretty impressed with the line of trucks and cars waiting to dispose of their large/bulky trash items.

We were given the chance to "Go Green" by buying used clothing ( I always called it being a thrifty Mom.) and dump our large trash items properly.

I just ran across a Hazardus Waste Collection notice for the County that I live in! Awesome! It's a drive- thru event held at City Hall in San Marcos ( a short drive away). There are several colletion dates - 3 posted for this year alone. Some of the items that can be disposed of are household cleaning products, paint products, weed killers, pesticides, anti-freeze, car batteries.

I wish that more cities would do this. I realize that some are to big to do this as a city wide or county event, but what about neighborhood clean ups?

Speak out and organize. Find out how to get such an event going. See if your neighborhood has such an event. Participate in those bulk trash days.

I am so lucky to live where I do. While living in Austin, we did participate in bulk trash days. My daughter belonged to a club that cleaned the park area/greenbelt and creek behind her school.

There is so much we can do to keep our cities clean and the Earth happy.
