Why do I have to press 1 for English?

And why must I be bilingual to apply for a higher paying job than one where I may speak only English?

I am not a racist by any means. I tried to learn Spanish. Failed. I grew up in a diverse neighborhood, my closest childhood friend was hispanic. Hell, my fathers family was from Germany and a my Gramndmother was half Spanish, they spoke both German and Spanish. English was my fathers 3rd language.

Check it out- They learned to speak English in order to work here. My grandfather spoke English before bringing his family into East Austin where  the kids could easily adapt to the Tex-Mex spoken there and learn English from the hispanic neighbors who, back then, made an effort to learn English in order to get a job.

This is my bitch. I was born and raised in Texas by Spanish/German/English speaking Immigrants and Texans and suddenly find myself an undesirable job candidate because I speak English. Hum. Go figure.

Pitches

And I speak more than enough Spanish to get by but not enough to be considered "bilingual"... so I'm not a suitable candidate. Yeah, that annoys me too. It really didn't used to bother me so much because I can see how, in certain industries or positions, it would really be necessary. But now it seems that more & more companies are requiring this for jobs that just (in my opinion) really don't warrant it.

I swear, if one more non Spanish speaking doctor asks if I am bilingual I'm gonna scream! If the doc doesn't speak a lick of Spanish why the hell are they seeing patients who don't speak English? You can't have your office staff follow you around to translate all day... especially not for $10/hr!

para espanol, o prima a numero dos

LOL

I'm right there with ya on this!   However, just for fun, I usually press el numero for the wrong language then just mess with them because their "bilingual" people aren't that good either.  At least not good enough to know I'm no good at espanol!

just remember:

Chinga Tu Madre Pinche'

use this phrase often for mas exciting conversations!
