I think we have to stop treating education as vocational prep and start teaching students how to learn and instilling the love of learning in them.  We are past the age where you must be taught how to do something by a teacher.  The ability to access information at the click of a mouse means that the most important skill in education is no longer memorization, but curiosity and the desire to learn.
