Genetic Engineering ...

Sigh, I wish I had the energy to b*tich full force but I don't. Just the other night I caught a documentary on BBC (off the internet) on Genetic Engineering of animals and crops.

What surprised me was when the lady, who's voice bugged me to no end told the organic guy that man has been manipulating foods for centuries. She said that carrots were originally white but that some people in Holland? Amsterdam? Somewhere there tampered with the carrot to make it an orange colour in honor of the House of Orange. WTF?

I'm not naive. I understand that fruits and vegetables are being coloured at some level to make them appear more delectable. I even have problems with this. 

What saddens me and perhaps I AM naive on this - is the fact that as much as genetic engineering is very regulated, I am still worried that it may get out of control.

I really have a problem with man tampering with nature for the sheer benefit of improving or ensuring mans longevity.

I mean, isn't there suppose to be a balalnce of things. Natural selection? If an organism of a species is defected then perhaps is was meant to be defected. That's how nature is. Animals give birth to a litter and not all survive. I don't mean to sound evil but that's just how it is.

Take medicine and modern technology in medicine. YAY! We are finding ways to make people live longer .. but while they live longer they are also getting sicker. This taxes are healthcare and promotes $$$$ for the pharmaceutical companies since these old, sick people are needing expensive medications.

They even have genetic engineering for Vitamin A enriched rice to feed the underdeveloped nations to help prevent Vitamin A deficiency.  WOOT. YAY!

And then what? So you prevent Vitamin A deficiency but will you be able to sustain the food and water needs of these people too? Rice is NOT the be all end all.  Apparently, this is not happening yet. And I'm not sure I want it to. Before we address one disease aspect, I feel we need to address the dis-eased mentality of the world.

We need to all work together not merely to ban together to try to solve a global issue, when we ourselvese have so much things we need to address amongst ourselves. It always starts from withIN and not from withOUT.

So I'm going off topic. Who cares. It's my b*itch session.
