^Anxiety is definitely a b!tch
So, I am not sure about any of you but, life can be pretty damn exciting. With all of the technology we are using these days, I am finding myself always checking something. My phone, my email, IM, messages on social networks, twitter etc.
Not sure why the hell I am always checking shit!! I guess it's the excitement of every new conversation, opportunity, chance to travel, and meet new people (wishful thinking huh!)
I run alot, that helps a little. I drink alot of wine but, that doesn't stop me. Lately I've been taking my laptop to bed.....Gees!!! I think I am crossing the line! If it were a Mac, it may be sexy enough to warrant going to bed with me. hmmmm...
What do you guys do? How do we get away from the need to "check", "check", "check" to see if we have a new message or voicemail or whatever.....Would love to hear some thoughts
cheers!

Im with Natalie.
My laptop has taken to shutting down every 5 minutes. It's kind of liberating to be away from it all!

my friends and family joke that i have an addiction, but the sad thing is, they are right. If i can't check my email or phone or PM's on message boards for an extended period of time, I get anxious, irritable, and downright unpleasant to be around.
even if my mailbox is empty, even if i KNOW it'll be empty, i still NEED to check it.
I was on my honeymoon in Jamaica this past week and it was the most relaxing week of my life b/c i COULDN'T check anything. Once I let the anxiety go about it i had the best time ever. Now it's back to the same old habbits.

Sounds like you need a new hobby? A new way to network?
I admit that I am on my computer alot. Not as often as I used to be. I formed friendships , reconnected with old friends, even wrote for a music zine after meeting someone who ran it. But- it took away from "real" life. I wasn't stopping to smell the roses. I wasn't exercising, reading, seeing as many movies.
I ran with those new frienships and only use "That Site" (LOL!) to keep up with my friends and what bands are playing and what happenings are happening.
I have found that in our circle of friends, it is often easier to start a "chain" on That Site to keep up with each other or to get together. That is a good tool.
Make a schedule. Give yourself an alotted computer time in the morning, afternoon, and night. Fill in the other times with things you enjoy doing. Before you post a bitch here, write it down. Take longer runs. Maybe cut back on the compuer more after that.
I cut back to IM only when I need to ask someone an important question- like my computer guy. I have one email account. I have 1 social network. My cell has been turned off since January cause I only use it for work or emergencies.
Hey- if Little Miss Social Butterfly here can cut back, so can you. Now, if I can just stop smoking and following men around in grocery stores......just kidding.About the men. I do need to stop smoking.

I have started gardening which takes my mind off my addiction. I give my eyes & butt a break and get some fresh air & exercise at the same time. Or I'll walk my dogs or watch funny video shows with my son. I still end up right back in front of this darn contraption though. The only time Idon't think about the computer at all is when I am on trips to New Mexico which is even bigger obcession & addiction.
