old enough to post slutty pics - too young to be held accountable?

We've all seen the stories how parents are suing MySpace or Facebook because their daughter ran off with some older guy she met online.  Everything from bad grades to suicide have been blamed on social networking sites such as these... Whatever happened to personal responsibility???

I see this shit all the time.  Young kids posting pictures of themselves in slutty little outfits or nothing at all, posing in various sexual positions they've seen their favorite pop stars pull off.  Doing everything they can to keep their profile viewable, including lying about their age, posting false names to throw parents off, etc.  When they get the "adult" responses they're fishing for, that's when the trouble begins.

But rather than ban the child from roaming where they please on the internet, rather than closely monitoring and correcting the child's behavior, people choose to make the social site, a NON-LIVING entity, the bad guy!  How convenient!  Let's blame an internet site for giving the world access to your child instead of taking ANY responsibility for what your child does!

Pitches

Parents should take a bigger role in what their children are allowed to do on the computer! How hard is that! We monitor their T.V, meet their friends parents, Hell- most of know what they are reading.

Haven't these parents looked into the parental blocks most internet services offer? Once the parent has actively monitored the situation and their child is still on the internet by means of a friends computer or library computer behaving like an adult, go talk to your child!
