WHAT DO YA MEAN IT'S NOW A TOLL ROAD???

They're restricting access now to my once favorite city Austin, by way of changing EXISTING highways we've already been paying for with our tax dollars for YEARS into TOLL ROADS!  WTF?

They're installing stop lights all along the free "highways" that come into Austin that are not tolled so you have to stop every 2 miles, or hop on one of their tollways to avoid the new delays.

I've been waiting for YEARS for them to finish several highways to making getting to or around the city easier.  But last year, they decided they needed to be bringing in more cash, so up went the toll booths and hundreds of stop lights to make it more tempting to get on a toll road.  They're FORCING US TO PAY TO GET INTO AUSTIN, ON ROADS WE'VE ALREADY PAID FOR!!!

Pitches

You forgot to add that those super fast toll roads have stop lights to.  They also don't have decent signs so you end up on a toll road even though you didn't want to be there, and they don't let you turn around, they force you to pay the toll.  IT SUCKS!

well I can proudly say I've never taken a toll road in/around Austin, but I see Exactly what you're saying about the signage!  You find yourself on one before you know it~

funny you mention this....I ended up paying 3.50 last week while lost in Dallas.  Yes, I was an idiot but, damn I don't think I got my moneys worth.  Maybe, if they start handing out free ice cream for this TX heat it would be a little better.

Seriously though, i do feel you on this.  If tax payers already paid once then isn't this kinda "double taxation."  "Toll" is just another term for "Tax" in my book.

It would be nice to know the alternative to paying a toll.  How else could the state cover their expenses?

Higher taxes when purchasing a high emission vehichle. HA! Higher taxes when purchasing a zippy little sports car zip to from a zillion dollar house to work.HA! Thats how the state can cover those taxes.

My brother and I took the toll road from Austin to Lampassas and yeah- it was a super quick drive. I can see the avantages when driving from city to city to avoid the traffic congestion...but in city? I paid a dollar to drive a mile in North Austin.
